The isolated and remote Thethi National Park is located in the far north of Albania in the Dinaric Alps.

The park and valley consists mostly of beech forest with some conifers

and broad-leafed trees such as ash and hornbeam.

The largest settlement in the area is the pretty village of Thethi which during

the height of communism was a tourist resort. Adventurous travelers

who make it to Thethi are amply rewarded – the setting is quite dramatic

with a backdrop of the high peaks of the Albanian Alps.

Shkodra is the nearest major town to Thethi, 70 km away. Due to the poor road conditions

and remoteness of the region, hiring a 4WD vehicle with an experienced driver is

 the recommended and most reliable way to travel – and an adventure in itself!

A day trip to this beautiful area would not do it justice – there are several attractions locally

and it is an idyllic spot to spend a couple of days absorbing the local culture.

National Parks of "Thethi"

Situated in the Albanian Alps, near Bjeshket e Namuna, 70 km far from Shkodra it has an area of about 2.630 hectares.

Through this park flows the River of Thethi, which has an outpouring of about 1000-1300 l/sec.

A very interesting natural monument is the waterfall of Grunasi, very charming and picturesque

with its water falling from an altitude higher than 30 m.

The park is known for its variety of habitats and vegetation.

It is important because it represents the most populated area of lynx-lynx with about 50 principals specie this liable.

There is a tendency of its inhabitants to move towards urbane areas, but during the summer season

 they return for their holidays, highlighting in this way their efforts for developing the familiar tourism.
